After spring cleaning and sweeping out the winter dust, it is time to bring some color, life and freshness back to your house.  Spring decoration is usually bright, cheerful and epitomize the rebirth feeling that spring air brings.  One easy way to decorate for spring is to use fresh spring flowers.

Popular Spring Flowers
The most common types of flowers found in spring decorating are daffodils, tulips, lilacs and hyacinths.  It is important to know, however, that special care must be taken when mixing these flowers together in the same container.  Cut daffodils and hyacinths release a sap when cut that can clog the stems of tulips so it is important not to combine them in the same vase.

Daffodils, tulips and hyacinths are some of the first flowers to bloom in the spring.  Because they are known as the flower of hope, daffodils have been adopted by the American Cancer Society and are celebrated as the “first flower of spring”.

Variety in Spring Flowers
Amaryllis, anemone, calla lilies, raninculus and sweat pea are also perfect for spring decorating, as are flowering crabtree and red bud branches.  Forsythia can also be used, especially for larger arrangements, and this type of spring flower will bloom inside if cut while the tree is budding.

Decorating Ideas
There are many ideas for decorating using spring flowers.  Place daffodils in a crystal or glass vase and tie a wired chiffon ribbon around the vase or a fresh look on a table top.  Lilacs, lilies and hyacinths are strong scented blooms that can be placed in a decorative vase in a bedroom or bathroom.  Calla lilies placed in an elegant tall container adds sophistication to dining room tables, or on the floor of a large entryway.

Accent your hardwood floors (www.dobsonfloors.com) with decorative pails filled with forsythia strategically placed in corners or in front of the fireplace that will not be used during the warm months.  Flowering crabtree and red bud branches can be used in tall, decorative vases as well to accent open spaces in rooms.

Place a single tulip with some mixed decorative greens in a bud vase to decorate a bathroom sink.  Use unique containers to display cut flowers, such as antique pitchers and tins, wooden boxes and any other watertight container you can find.

As the weather warms and sunshine becomes more abundant, the natural instinct is to open up the house and bring in fresh air.  What better way to freshen the house than to use fresh flowers in your spring decorating.  For more decorating tips visit www.dobsonfloors.com.
